hi chaps, had my disco td5 for 6 months, i have oil in the coolant, oil level dropped badly but no external leak so concluded that my oil cooler has gone. also alongside this appearance of oil, the coolant system is over-pressurising resulting in 2 blown top hoses. i suspected HGF after the second hose and now i'm pretty sure the oil cooler has blown. my question is, could the oil pressure (getting into the coolant system) be enough to blow hoses or is it likely to be a combination of both? (HGF and OCF)
im not confident enough to tackle either job so looks like i'll have to bite the bullet and empty my piggy bank. though even if its not HGF i will have it done anyway if im having the oil cooler done, as its never been done and on 140k miles now

well i got a quote today from 4x4 solutions in maresfield sussex. he agrees and says both jobs need doing as the symptoms are pretty much a certainty.
£902 all in for HG and oil cooler, which is a fair bit less than i was expecting

There is a large Landy place in Capel near Horsham-might be worth getting a quote off them-been there to get parts before, seem very helpful and good

thats inside out 4x4. i've had parts off him a few times, he is good but he quoted £700 +vat just for the HG. 4x4 solutions were recommended by another garage and they gave me a breakdown of the costs involved. i would have had ago myself but its its out of my comfort zone for repairs. i do most things myself but not confident enough to do a head gasket. plus i doubt i would have the time!

i suppose on the plus side, its a common major issue dealt with and a good few more years added to my disco's life. the rest of the car is in very good nick for its age (2000 w reg)
