I couldn't find a definitive answer on the search. Having found all the affected engine hoses gunked up with oil deposits, I don't really want to go with the same system.

Allisport do a similar breather (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVE...793238?hash=item41b69fb196:g:sYcAAOSwI2xX8rA1) but I can't find any reviews on it so who's to say it performs any different to the original? Plus it's flippin expensive.

I was thinking of perhaps teeing in to the pipe that goes from the cyclone to the air inlet and adding a simple catch can.

What's other people's solutions to this?
 
Do you really need to modify the existing system?
A 200/300 tdi will do over 200,000 miles with regular maintenance, so whether or not it gets oil deposits in the hoses (with the existing system) it certainly doesn't seem to be detrimental.
 
There are alternatives, including as you suggest an oil catch can * .... but ->

Agreed - from what I have seen of the catch can ideas and costs, IMHO its better to just replace the hoses and cyclone as necessary. they are cheap enough.

* The ProVent system - essentially a cyclone which discharges into a can (!), is about £150 - which will buy you quite a few cyclones and tubes !!
 
My 200 just vents to atmosphere on top of the drivers footwell, weirdly it makes no mess at all or stains, yet when it was plumbed in to the air filter there was always some snot in the filter neck.

+1 mine vents over the right wheel arch simple as that. Never made a drop of mess
 
I used the standard pope just turned it around. Don't have an air box so nothing for me to blank
 
you can find a few cheaper than that on T bay I think that BMW use a cyclone breather, Often wondered about venting my TD5 breather into the chassis to kill 2 birds with one stone.
Or should I say 2 cyclists at one traffic light?

Worth researching as I can recall people saying not to do it as whilst the oil vapour will do no harm the water/condensation can contain acid.
 
Pretty interesting thread.
Ive got a TD5 and looking to fit a Provent, mainly because through all the reasearch I have done the majority state that they are the best thing to fit, even the with price. As you can fit it so the excess oil is filtered and returned to the sump, which is a bonus.

You can also pick em up in the UK for £120
 
It is indeed 19mm ID. Cheers Lynall, blanking plug ordered.

Dont forget to keep a screwdriver on board so if you go off roading you can quickly reconnect the oe hose to the blanked stub to stop and water getting into the engine
