Help Please, I have a 1981 Series III Diesel. What are the Pro's & Con's of replacing the standard oil bath air filter with a K & N. I have been told elsewhere that the engine will be smokier with the K & N. The engine already smokes like a train when cold and I don't want to make it any worse as I have the MOT coming up. Has anyone made the change of Filter types?

what you need to do is scrap the old diesel for a chevy big block twin turbo wiyh nos. you may want to upgrade the brakes?

Type of air filter makes no difference to a diesel, so why change one everlasting system, for a new expensive one with no improvement in performance. When i drove series Diesels I used to put half a gallon of petrol per tankfull for easy starting in the winter also stopped waxing . Check out how well your heater plugs are working . Go to the test with a near empty tank of 50/50 parafin diesel mix plus a cetane booster should make it pass.

Thanks for that, I changed the heater plugs last month for the wizzy ones from Paddocks that still work if one goes down, is it parrallel type? all I know it's the opposite to the originals (like xmas tree lights). I get lots of light grey smoke until it's warm, Diesel smoke I think. No blake smoke unless revved very hard, but I do get a Browny colour smoke if I simulate the emmision test when I back off from full revs. i have been told that this is the bad one that fails MOT's. Will give it a go with the mix that you suggest. Any make of additive best?
