Morning.
Just a follow up to my first post last night, i reread my post and realised it does not make it clear what i am asking advice about. Put simply the chassis etc is rusty and a garag have offered to waxoyl for £800. So is this about what to pay and do i need to have it done? I do live near the sea.
Any advice will be greatly welcomed.
Many thanks.

far too expensive, for what results youd get .its not difficult to do it yourself, a wash off first with garden pressure washer

Not much point in doing anything on top of existing rust, and, in your case, salt.
You need to wash it thoroughly first, then get as much rust as you can off with a wire brush, wash again, let it dry, and then coat it.

As James says, £800 is silly money for a waxoyl job.

Waxoyl tends to sit on top of rust and the tin worm eats away merrily while the black/clear vomit covers it up..

Plus £800 is stupid money for a wayoyl job..

Especially if there is salt in the original rust as well. Which there will be in a coastal location.

yep.

99% of the time wayoyl just makes everything worse!!

not to mention the mess it makes and its a right pain in the ballbag when it gets in ya hair!!!

I kind of like Waxoil.
Because it’s only a temporary finish you are always revisiting those parts it covers, meaning regular maintenance and observation of said parts. Nowt worse than fit and forget. You inevitably only come across further damage when it’s too late.
I find all sorts when scraping away at mi chassis to splodge a other coat of underseal on. I also like to run a blowtorch over before a recoat.

Thank you everyone who responded. The garage have said that it is a full days work as they will also clean all rust off first then wax and oil. They will also replace three of the brake lines. So as I do not have access to a pit or ramps I’m a bit stuffed. Maybe just have pipes replaced and leave the coating.

Hi. Were you going to continue as it feels that you were about to explain how to do this as this would greatly assist if you were.
