I am in the process of repairing my bulkhead ready for a new coat of paint all the welding has now been done and i am preparing it for painting. But there is loads of old oil and gunk on the bulkhead i have tried petrol to get it off but this does not seem to work very well. Is there anything else i could use to get all the rubbish off?

Any advice would be great!
 
carefully use a blow torch to heat it up to soften it for easier removal with scraper.
Wire attachment should get rid of the rest.
But I imagine its in a really awkward place to get to.

Be careful if you intend to use blowtorch don't set fire to yer landy:doh:
On of them black and decker heat guns may be better, but their ****e on paint sobut might be enough to soften the crap you need to remove:D
 
Parrafin sprayed in with a garden sprayer, leave for an hour or so, then pressure wash.
Thats how I cleaned my engine bay.;

Does anyone still use Gunk these days?

Must confess it's been 30 years since I last did so may be rose tinted spectacles, but that used to remove grease.

They sell it on ebay so I'm assuming so SH. May nip to my local parts place this week to see what they sell ... For the A-Class as you know ;)
 
Gunk is good, the Spray on stuff is ACE, but TBH you cant beat Diesel or Parafin leave it a while then blast with a jet wash
 
Ok cheers may get some then! I don't really want to use a pressure washer as the loom is still on the bulkhead and i don't want to get all the electrics wet.

As long as you cover bare connectors you should be ok

DO you get your motor wet why you drive? Have you ever fjord any water bodies of water whats the difference. If you are worried about electric connectors they make a silicon spray just for electric connectors, you take them apart spray and put back together, Get it from electric supplier, 3m makes one as do others
 
Ok guys i'll take the heat but whats this stuff you call paraffin for removing grease? Paraffin is a wax used in candles here in the states.
 
Used to be quite common (liquid same consistency really as petrol) sold in local hardware shops and used in small heaters.

Less readily seen now - as indeed are local hardware stores!

I've got a US client who asked me to put some 'Cheeseboroughs' on the job.
After a little 'Googling' I found that he wanted some Scaff swivel clamps!:confused:
