Hello and Merry Christmas. My Freelander 1 TD4 (2004) has developed a strange fault. When cold, it hunts badly at about 2k revs. As it warms up, this improves and the revs at which it hunts increases to 3k then clears. After this, it runs fine till the following day. Fuel? It’s an old girl but very reliable with 157k on the clock. Please could someone post some sage advice?
Many thanks as ever,
Charles.

As a basic check remove the glow plugs and check with a battery see if they glow for a few seconds but don't melt them. Glow plugs come on / off with the timer giving a good burn.

Injectors are the normal cause of misfires on the M47R engine.
You could use a couple of doses of Comma Diesel Magic in the fuel, then drive it hard for a bit, which will clean the injectors.
I put a double dose of Diesel Magic in my diesels every 4 tanks of fuel, which keeps the injectors nice and clean.
