Hi Folks, it's me again.
This time its a slight concern with the fuel gauge.
The upshot is that when i get down to the needle being on top of the red mark, very very slightly in, the car starts hesitating as though it is going to run out of juice. Put a can of diesel in and prob gone.. so obviously it is a fuel level issue.
Problem is that i'm not sure why as my previous landy wuld be right down on the white mark before you had any concern about it dying on you. Same as my friends 110.
What are yours like for this?
I'm also getting the red fuel light flickering on and off even when filled to the brim, but the needle doesn't hardly go above the full mark so no imbalance on the gauge etc.
My first thought is to change the sender unit and that i am actually running out of fuel when just touching red, but, what other things could this be before i go doing this!!!

Lets see what the wonderous LZ members can throw at it.

Hand grenades possibly :(

sender or perforated pickup pipe at a guess if it drives okay otherwise

Fuel gauges are famously idiosyncratic and individual and you have to get to know what yours means when it says full or nearly empty. You might change expensive parts and find you still have a problem; just a different one!

drives ok otherwise..ie no stuttering hesitation, but, always feels underpowered and this has been a concern since i've had it as you will see in my other threads.
I have been wondering if the fueling set up is wrong but if it is i'm not sure how or why it would be effecting things when fuel is getting low!!

have you ever fitted a lift pump while you have owned it ?:) when my gauge is just in red , i still have £10 worth of fuel in .;)

God no, not had it long. Fitted just about everything else though.
Where is this lift pump?

ok, so if this is faulty, how do i find out and what effect would it have on the running of the landy and why???
I like to understand why it doesn't work as well as simply replacing if necessary

Usually if the fuel pump is packed in if you take the fuel filter of it won't be full to the top with fuel also power will be down.

lift pumps dont last forever, they have a diafram in them which fail , this can cause either fuel to **** out of a breather hole on the lift pump , or can cause poor starting , and not enough power. also as said , fuel filter not full, but not always the case. for £20 and 20 mins work, its worth doing . also you have piece of mind, its another part you have replaced. i replace lift pumps when i do a service, it makes sence.:)

The previous owner has not looked after this at all so nothing would surprise me.
The pipes on the fuel filter... in/out... seem to be wrong way round but working, i don't know what condition the main filter was in as i simply replaced it when i serviced her after putting in a replacement engine. They also have an inline fuel filter with a hand priming pump pror to the fuel pump itself. The idea being to manually prime the pump if fuel runs out, so i thought, but maybe not!!!
This in line filter caused me some issue a couple of weeks back as the engine kept losing power to almost point of stalling. I dug around and i could see the rubber hand pump was completely sucked in flat. The filter itself was... well, i've never seen so much crud in one. It had a clear case and the case was full of rust etc. God knows how it had run.
This filter was replaced and nothing drawing from tank into new so far, but the filter itself is at best only 1 3rd full of fuel. No idea about main filter level. Another thing to check!!

get rid of all there bodge.. and get it back to standard.. asking for problems with that , air leak city. pipes carnt be on the wrong way , it wouldnt run for long , and would die under load.

just taken some pic's 5 mins and will be loaded. Thinking about it i think we corrected the pipe issue but still not seeing this lift pump so maybe someone can tell me from pic's.

This will show all i have and how its piped

The in line filter is only full to the point of my finger.. engine switched off

The pipe at the very top runs back to the forward part of the pump etc in 2nd pic:

The pipe from the side of filter (1st in last sequence) runs to just behind where the hand pump line enters in this pic
