I'm after a cheap code reader, read & reset & any bells a whistles I can get for not a lot. I've a 2002 TD4 3 door hard back. Will this ELM 327 thing for the pc work? if not what are my options?

ELM327 will read generic codes and reset engine warning light on Fl1
it will also read basic live data eg temperature, revs etc.
Never going to be as good as professional kit costing 10 times as much - but can save many times original cost if it just diagnoses an oxygen sensor fault, and lets you reset the warning light after you have done the work.

Ok by generic do you mean standard OBD codes but not LR specific codes? what I'm trying to do is reset all codes and then address each code as it appears (or hopefully not because one doesn't appear).

It should read all the engine codes, but can only give sensible suggestions for the generic codes. LR specific codes will come with no description, just a number, it will reset ALL the codes so you at least have a chance of starting frpm a clean sheet.
