I have a tdci and a nanocom. If I plug it in after opening the doors and before putting the ignition key in it does power up but asks me to "recycle the ignition" before it will recognise the vehicle id and start working. Turning the ignition on and off, engine not started, it will read and recognise the vehicle.I don't think the Nanocom even powers up if you plug it in while the engine is off.

As regards the OBD key coder, half of me thinks this is a scammer generated urban myth. The other half of me thinks it is a possibility, now or in the future. Has anybody got positive proof that it exists?
Remote switch in the power feed to the OBD. Location known only to you.
Thinking about the nanocom, logically it must work without the engine running to read faults which are stopping it running?
