I know Adwest PAS boxes leak. I've read many post on leaks from the sector shaft lower oil seal. However my box is leaks (more like seeps) from the adjuster cap at the end of the input shaft. There is a hex shaped cap with a locking ring. When the engine is running the fluid weeps out from behind the locking ring. I drive about 300 miles per week and lose about 100 ml of fluid.
The steering box has recently had new seal in (not by me) so replacing a new seal with another new seal is unlikely to stop the leak.
I am planning to remove the locking ring and then mark and unwind the adjuster cap 2 or 3 turns. Wind some PTFE tape around the threads and screw the cap back to its original position. Finally, I'd replace the locking ring with either a smear of silicone or a well lubed o-ring.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Or is there a better solution?
Regards.
