I'm wondering what is the widest tyre that can be safely fitted to the newer tubeless standard steel wheels on defenders, think they are 5 or 5.5 inches wide, i.e. can a 235/85 be fitted or is it dodgy?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Why would you want to put a tyre on your car that's not as wide as the length of your willy?

well keeping things in proportion, is your landys door handle narrower than your wifes fanny?

Anyways, MiGi:

I'm not sure what the safest tyre size is and I don't really understand how tubeless tyres work. Just so long as they're firmly air tight and they look well packed against the wall of the rim I think you'll be alright. You could always try pumping them up, giving them a bounce and then covering them in water in a basin to see if there are any obvious leaks or mis-shapes.
