Ok will try keep this short.
My engine overheated long time and block porous.
Got replacement engine which arrived minus flywheel and injector pump.
So, took flywheel/torque plate of the old engine and fitted to replacement engine.
First question, can this be fitted one position or numerous positions. As there is hole in plate for locking engine at TDC hopefully this can only go on in one position.
Been told when engine is at TDC the lobs on cam for cylinder 1 should be flat. Asking as when I put locking pin in the lobs are not flat.
So, if I set cam lobs flat on cyclinder 1 will this defo be TDC.

The injector pump was off engine when arrived, cog and chain sitting so you can see it through casing and pump slid in easily. slipped it in with keyway lined up.
Can some ne talk me through in easy steps how to set the engine ready to accept pump and how to check all lined up ready to fire.

Got car together and tried firing and sounds like its close to firing but not quite there.
Got a synch mate to make sure the immobiliser and engine computer are talking.

Help please.

Anyone near Edinburgh want to come earn beer vouchers and help?

Cheers

Chris

@wammers is the best for this.

Cannot remember if the lobe was flat. IIRC the lobe of number 1 points upwards. Then you turn the engine clockwise little by little wriggling the timing pin in its hole. It then pops through the hole and holds it in place. Cannot remember what the lobe looked like but if you miss it I think there is a second hole it falls into.

The pump timing needs an adapter and guage to set properly. It can be a bit of a sod to start if it is out.

All ways turn engine the right way never backwards or the chain can jump teeth
apologies if you all ready know but others reading may not.

If the pump has been removed without a sprocket holder in position you will struggle to get pump to align. The chain tensioners will have pulled the sprocket out of line. With the engine at TDC number one firing the cam lobes on number one cylinder should be flat across the top. If the chains have moved you may have to remove the front cover to set the timing up. Special tooling is needed to do this and also for pump timing It cannot be guessed. I have never ever heard of a porous block on one of these engines. Cracked heads are common porous blocks are not.
