Morning all, was awoken in the early hours this morning by my l322 3.0 diesel (2003) alarm going off on 1. Couldnt do anything with the key fob to shut it up. So disconnected the battery.
At a more resonable hour i went out to investigate, found when i reconnect the battery the brake lights are on, the key wont turn in the ingnition and the air suspension lights are flickering. Checked the battery voltage 12.6 volts. Then noticed the puddle in the passenger footwell. Obviously got dreaded water ingress from some where (suspect sunroof drain but cant check as cant open sunroof).
Pulled the carpet and found the plug for what i think would be the headlight leveling ecu swimming in water. Ive dried it out sucked up 2 loads of water with a small vax but the car is still dead. Checked a bunch of fuses cant find anything blown. Pulled half the dash and cant find anything wet above floor level, so my question is where to go from here?
My guess is something has cooked but im not sure what or where i should be looking.

Thanks for your replies, my OBD reader needs the ignition to be on to read the codes so need to get ovwr that hurdle 1st :-(
Wheres the ecu in the car? I always thought it was under the bonnet on the diesel. The fuseboard is dry, ive taken the ecas ecu apart and thats bone dry which sits to the left and above the fuseboard. Ive tracked the water ingress down to a blocked sunroof drain on the passenger side which i have now cleaned out and refitted so the water has been running down the inside of the a pillar trim then around the dash structure and into the footwell missing all the electrics barring 1 purple plug which was sat in it and i assume that was causing a short. I think that plug should be in a leveling ecu for the headlights which is missing for some reason.
 
I'm going to start with water ingress. When you say you can't open sunroof, have you sealed it off with something? If not , can you open it manually?

Addit: written before I read your second post, but I suppose the question stands, as you can access drainage from underneath :)

Silly question time: do you have RAVE? There is a wiring diagram, which might be able to help. I can't access mine at moment, so can't go look.

Hi yer i opened in manually, the tool for it is in the boot which i couldnt open as i disconnected the battery (got dog cage in so no access from rear seats either). Got it open with a long 4mm allen key through where the sunroof switch lives, cleared them with compressed air which blew the hose off the drain outlet so had to take the headlining down to refit the hose to the outlet

Yer ive got 1 on a laptop somewhere but i need a starting point. I recon its a short somewhere possibly in the purple plug so just cleaning that out in the hope its that, i cant find anything else thats got wet anywhere and the car wad fine when i parked it up yesterday evening

Glad you managed to get something to open it. Allen key was going to be my suggestion , if you didn't have the tool. :)

There is likely condensation in the ECU's, a dehumidifier might help
 
Ive no idea how but its come back to life, i was pulling fuses to see what circuit controlled the brake lights and was going to go from there, pulled 9 and 17 which turned the brake lights off and the car came back to live with a bunch of fault codes which clear by going lock to lock on the steering wheel. I have no idea what is going on with the electrics. Plugged my code reader on no faults registered. Completely baffled

All fixed, drove the car up n down the road and air suspension cycled as it should, just got to put the whole thing back together now. Thanks for all the help.
Hi great news it’s back on the road but I agree with the dehumidifier advice as I have three permanently on rotation in the glovebox with the fuse cover off, the cabin and the NSR where the Bluetooth, sat nav etc live. That was the way I cleared my brake light on and weird electrical gremlins. Happy motoring.
