Hi, Just sharing this one as an experienced Land Rover mechanic went the wrong way with this. My 02 90 TD5 would start normally heater plug and engine light going out before turning the ignition. Normal idle then on pressing the accelerator the engine light came on and there was no power. The fault was intermittent some time occuring many times after each other, and sometimes not happening for a couple of days. It was found via diagnostics to be a blown fuse on the "air mass flow meter" replaced and all fine.:)

He shouldn't have been able to miss it as the MAF, MAP and throttle potentiometer all use the same 5v feed. When he was checking the throttle pot on his diagnostic computer it would have shown that the 5v feed was not present. As the wire that runs these is a common failing point (it usually chafes through or goes brittle) you would expect it to be one of the first things he checked.
