Fitted boost pin. Pin line is dead centre. But there is no power low down the rpm tickover is 800rpm then no power till 1500rpm then boosts really well change gear and if it goes below 1500 its no power again till 1500 the goes ok.remove pin and its dead centre.

What happens if you wind the (outside) set screw in/out by a good few turns? That should adjust your off boost fuel delivery

Do you mean the star screw.if so then nothing.i turned it back to standard no power still.and now just keep turning it up but seems as nothing untill i get to 1500 rpm

you edc or manual?

you checked the lift pump is squirting nice?

anything happening at the exhaust when bogging?

how badly has the fuel been messed with?

you running normal diesel?

Yes egr blanked
Manual
No havent checked pump as thought if pump gone it wouldnt run at all

What do you mean exhaust when bogging

With old pin in star wheel was turned 3/4 turn and pin was on the more angled side all marked up.

Running straight white diesel

when it goes flat, are you getting any smoke out the back?

the injection pump can pull fuel enough so it doesn't stall, you'll lose power though.

see if you can undo the fuel filter bleed screw (or pull the pipe off into a jar) and manual do the lift pump. it should squirt out. engine needs to be in correct position for manual to work.

or if it's old, then it's worthwhile sticking a new delphi on it.

No smoke what so ever just low on power.its as if its got no turbo then 1500 rpm the turbo is there.it only happened after the pin was put in and all set back to standard on the marking made on the casing and on the star wheel under the pin.

If pump was drawing enough fuel through to not stall wouldnt it be flat all the way thru the revs

you won't have a turbo then. it doesn't start to spin up until 1500+ iirc (defenders don't have rev counters :D)

no, but i'd expect top end to suffer.. which yours isn't doing.

i'd suspect wrong setup from someone playing with it.

adjust the smoke screw a bit until you see black smoke before the turbo kicks in, then back it off until it's just visible

did you have another thread on this?

The smoke screw as in the star wheel.

I thought the same as i tweaked it myself but the pin first fitted it ran well with alot of smoke so put it back to standard.and then since ive bij turning the star wheel back up but nothing seems to be changing.

I only tweaked the pump on the original pin because it was terrible in any gear so turned it up

no, stick that back to orig setting.

it's the torx with locknut under the metal cap on the top.

mark th orig position and turn 1.5 times cw. get upto temp and on LOW boost (low revs) check the smoke. turn it down until there's hardly any smoke or you lose power.

see if that helps. remember if you turn these up too much you will raise your egt and cook something :)

Right ive turned the smoke screw up 1.5 thrns cw and went for run seems to be running alot better low down the revs. Does that push the pin further down then producing more boost. So will see how that goes for few days.

When you say egt will cook something what will it cook turbo or more head gasket kind of thing

have a butchers, explains it better than me http://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/Tuning_Land_Rover_Tdi_engines_Rev_2.pdf :)

high egts can melt pistons, crack heads, kill turbos

though you would need to be going a bit nuts on fiddling imo.

long hills under load will raise them more.

if worried you can buy egt probes and gauges

Thats a useful download.so the star wheel sets the tension for spring.so turning it up will restrict the pressure of the spring and pin hence not much power gain. Cheers for that trax i will run it work tonight and then turn it back tomorrow and lower star wheel

gl, let us know how you got on

Well few days of turning the smoke screw cw has resulted in the boost kicking in lower down bout 12 to 1300 rpm so feels alot better and no smoke. And plenty of power thru the range now
