Hey guys,

Got a defender td5 1999 and got a problem with it and hoping for some advice please.

Only when the transfer box is in diff lock can I get drive.
Both high or low, no diff lock, gearbox engaged, no drive. You can occasionally hear the cogs 'just' slightly grinding as if almost there but not.
Tried rocking it, driving slowly, everything.
When diff locked, light on dash, out of diff lock, no light, but no drive.
Hoping someone has a couple of ideas.
Cheers,
Dev

I should have it up on a ramp tomorrow.
So....if the prop is spinning, the axle is at fault then.? Surely this wouldn't be something to go overnight.?

splines or a cv may have been worn for a long while ,trying to get truck moving may have been the last straw,

So.....
I got her up on the ramp, after much deliberation and scratching of the head ( and the almost impossible task of lifting a raised defender on a two post safely) it turns out that the splines on the cv are almost completely non existent.
So with that, thanks James Martin for the advice. At least not the transfer box or the diff.
Seems a bit of an achilies heel for the defender with a fault like that completely taking my front wheel drive!!
