The dash lights seem to have 'gone out ' i cant see any fuses have gone , but dont specificity know which fuse it should be either... any ideas ? ive never had any centre dash lights ( the heater controls etc ) and just the main dash dials but they now seem to have gone out !

If all the lights have gone out at the same time and the fuses are ok then Do a wiring continuity check.

You will need a circuit diagram to identify the wires.

I think the fuse for the dash lights is in the engine bay for a disco but not sure you Manual should help. ;)

best get a manual ! also have no idea how to do a continuity check :(sorry bit of a numpty ! i can just about change a fuse...

ive never seen one anywhere on mine ? so will check the fuses one by one , if not is it easy to get to the bulbs and test them ?

As far as I can tell. Japanese Disco's have dimmer switches. There are after market dimmer switches for D1, D2 and D3.

Circuit continuity is easy even without a multimeter.

Ideally all you need is a torch ( make sure the bulb and batteries are ok first ;) ) a couple of lengths of wire and ideally a couple of crocodile clips.

Disconnect yr car battery and check each section of wire in the circuit you want to test so
From Battery terminal to fuse.
From fuse to switch.
From switch to light.
From light to earth.

Some folk use a 12 volt bulb and the car battery, however I don't think ECU's cope with random 12 volt bursts...............

I doubt that all of the bulbs would blow at the same time so start at fuse 8 which is shared with the R/H side light so if thats ok the fuse is also ok, then the light switch connections and the earth connections behind the drivers kick panel.

It's just a single bulb for the heater controls. just pull the round and sider controls off and and remove panel.

Are u speaking about a disco 2?

Thanks chaps - fuse 8 ! you guys are good :) i swear id checked that...
it would seem i now only have one ' bulb ' on though.. there is no light on the controls (ive never had that working though to be fair... ) and now the other one on the other side of the instrument pannel is blown, is it a straight forward job to remove the cluster and get access to the bulb ? are the bulbs a land rover parts only job or can i order them somwere on line ?

Fuses don't tend to blow for no reason......

You will need to look to see why the fuse has blown so with the instrument biannacle removed you will also find what bulbs you need.... Halfrauds will probably have some or your local motor factors ;)

Some switch bulbs hard wired and others have a special fitting but I wouldn't say unique to Land Rover. External bulbs are standard stuff.
As said if the sidelight is ok then the fuse is as it's shared.:)

RTC3635 for heater controls that's the only place you can use it and one only required.

The dash bulbs have different coloured bases for the what ever function they have, grey, black or blue and some lamps are clear and some have green glass.

Thanks , well ill get an RTC3635 for the controls , it seems the only light working is one light on the top right hand corner of the cluster ,

well i got the heater controls off but how on earth do you get the bulb out ? it seems to be pushed back as well so im worried about loosing it down the back of the dash! any ideas ?

It's a capless bulb so just pull out and push in the replacement.
Top Tip slide a bit of tube over the bulb and grip with pointed nose pliers.

good idea will try that , problem is it looks like the whole bulb and holder has been pushed back in to the dash ? perhaps by someone else trying to fix it :( im not sure how easy it is to remove the whole unit ?

yipee finally got the bulb out ! thanks for the help and the part number, any idea what the part number is for the bulb behind the instrament cluster ? also the 12v socket ? thanks !
