Driving down the road, go to brake in my Disco 300TDI 94 m reg and I am met with a grinding, buzzing vibration from the dash area. No brake pedal travel and no power to my brakes..... I could not stop! It felt like the ABS was coming on but I was not braking hard and was on good tarmac when it happened. I found a disconected set of wires (two wires each side) and a two pin block conector undone the other day this was on the N/S of the engine bay near the top of the wing. I re-connected this do you think this could be the problem if so what have I re-connected? Any ideas on this would be appreciated before a big repair bill or insurance claim at the traffic lights at the bottom of the steep hill I live on. Thanks.

Cant answer your question, but the first thing I would be doing would be disconnecting what you connected back to the status quo and seeing if that made it go back to how it was.

Got a bit more info now. Put the trailer on tonight to take down the yard and found that with the trailer connected if I press the brakes the dash lights came on dimly also the heater control lights the same. Does this mean that I have a Knackered earth in my trailer socket on the disco or could it still be elsewhere. I have not undone the wires I reconnected yet but will find out where they go tomorrow.

i have a similar problem i have hardly no travel in my brake pedal and takes ages to stop and sometimes my abs light stays on does yours? but then it can be fine another time i havent a clue so its going in see if they can sort it

ABS light not on all the time but was when I bought it, they had it repaired before I picked it up, now still no light unless they have removed the bulb!
Does your pedal go solid and metallic feeling, like a push bike with no rubber brake pads......Before you ask pads on the disco are good.

The wires go into a metal block with metal pipes coming out of it. It is between the washer bottle and air filter housing.

yes sometimes i can only press a little bit but today a hiss like air and pedal went all the way down and braked well for about 3 times then back to hard pedal i dont have a clue

Serious now. MattB When your pedal only moves a bit do you mean about 10% of the pedal travel, meeting resistance and now braking power, if you are then I think we are both in deep stuff. I now test brake before I need to brake properly. Sorry if your following. P.s. Someone once said only dead fish go with the flow.

It sounds like you reconnected the ABS and now you have problems....which is probably why it was disconnected in the first place. Need to get some who knows to have a look at it.

sounds very much like that.
most likely the sensors on the front hubs. these often give problems.
expensive, so prob the reason why they disconnected the system.
