Hi,

Our Series II has a common config out here in Thailand; original engines replaced with Japanese. I have a Nissan Safari diesel and an original LR gearbox.

I've been told that they are 'mainly compatible' but due to higher power in the Safari, it is not unexpected that first gear pops out after running down a steep hill on engine-brake for a while. Those who told me this replaced my gears a second time for free after the 2nd gear cracked when I came down a large hill hear last month.

I am a self-confessed clueless idiot when it comes to mechanics, so am at their mercy to do the right thing.

Does their statement make any sense? or are they trying to help me part with my money for a new engine and gearbox?

Thanks in advance,

Simon.
