hi - new on here, but my 2015 Disco was filled with unleaded instead of diesel. Run for 3 miles before realising.
Now in garage . Any ideas of cost? Been told £7-10k to replace the pump? I’m no mechanic but seems a lot! Any help greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Try draining the petrol, filling with diesel and running it. Surprisingly most cars are ok with that. If yu can find a mate with a petrol vehicle, he would love all that fuel foc too. Win win.

Cheers. Am doing that. Someone has said it will run but the lubrications on the pump may have been taken off and after 2k miles, the engine ceases. Then a replacement needed. They’re suggesting replacing the pump now, but at mega cost. Wondered if anyone else has views on this

Don’t know where there getting prices from

In tank fuel pump are around £200

HP fuel injection pump is around £800

So a bit cheaper than the £7-10k quote

If it came to that I wouldn’t have thought an independent garage wouldn’t charge more than £2k to replace the pump, is harder on the D4 as the fuel pump is timed

Hopefully ur be ok, if u haven’t got anyone could always call the rac / AA and tell them you’ve misfueled ur disco

Or put a post here https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/ as someone may be near u that can help

Look for disco mikey in there , he’s in Dundee

Sounds a bit drastic for the garage to quote that amount before they even try to drain all the petrol and then refill and run on diesel.

Thanks for all this and very helpful. I think it’s the injection pump, so the £800 makes sense. Still waiting for garage to let me know....

If it has gone into Land Rover to fix, they will replace total fuel system from tank to injectors, their standard procedure, £7000 it cost my neighbours insurers!

Please let us know how things go

Are u far from Dundee as if ur not that other guy on the Disco forum is very good and considerably cheaper than a dealer

What.. They're taking the ****.

What a crock of ****e. The pump "may" have suffered a small amount of wear, but not enough to notice.

As for the engine seizing, what rubbish.

Then take to someone who knows what they're talking about. ;)

Methinks the garage is having a chuckle, do as suggested previously. Get it drained, fill with diesel and see how thing go.

Diesel FIPs can seize if they pump petrol long enough.
But if it works, it works. I doubt it will die 'later'

Drain the tank, use compressed air to blow out fuel lines , fit new fuel filter then refill with diesel crack off fuel rail feed pipe and prime fuel system , retighten pipe to fuel rail , crank and start engine .

There’s that fuel pressure shrieder valve at the back of the engine

Wondering if that can also be used to bleed the system through or if as u say need to crack the fuel rail feed pipe

Thks

The reason I'd crack off the feed pipe to the rail is to get as much petrol out of the system as possible
