Evening folks,

I have just posted this in the disco section but want opinions from owners of both.

Hope eveyone had a good xmas with lots of food an DRINK!

I'm after some advice really. Thinking of selling my car to clear debt and dont fancy using my G reg disco as my only vehicle as its a bit rough and ready!

So my question is do i buy a newer disco (P,R reg) or do i get something like an X reg freelander. Freelanders look more like a car you would drive about town in and take on long journeys, where as i think disco's look meaner and more up to the job in my opinion!

I want it to be a happy medium, some off roading(nothing too heavy) and obviously my day to day too. I want to be able to put some tyres like kumho kl75 on it too and also a snorkel. Dont think ive seen a safari snorkel on a freelander before?? Also can you get diesel freelanders? I also want it to be as good in the snow as my disco is.

Any help and advice would be really good

in my opinion I would go 4a Disco
 
you've got a disco so you know their faults and rust rust rust. Freelanders don't suffer from rust, the petrols are prone to hgf , the diesels are reliable engines , due to most owners knowing nothing about the workings of a vcu alot of second hand ones have knackered diffs.
a good diesel hippo is an excellent small 4x4 for everyday use.

Thank you, thats the first bit of useful advice i've been given so far! Are they as capable off road, in floods and snow as a disco?

If there so good why have you sold yours? And if there so good how come your dream car is a 110?
 
There just a rover 400 on steroids with a **** 4wd system. And diluded drivers! There about as good looking as the first rav4.

horses for courses isn't it.
i like the 110, but the freelander was more suitable for me at the time.

they are totally different vehicles for different uses, why don't you get that?
 
From what you've mentioned, a Freelander TD4 should fit the bill.

I wouldn't get a Disco 1 or 2 unless you want/need:

- Better off road capability
- More space and/or 7 seats
- Status symbol of having a "proper Landy"
- Strong desire towards the Disco

This may come as a surprise but the Freelander actually has a better reliability index than the Disco II! (This is keeping in mind that the Disco II is said to be more reliable than its predecessor!) So it makes me laugh when the Disco boys mock the Freelander for its reliability. Truth be told, they all have their niggles though. Land Rover engineering is (or was?) very inconsistent and ranges from total **** to pioneering. For instance, when it's frosty I can't open my tailgate due to the Freelanders overly complicated opening/closing mechanism. You would have thought they would have thought about that potential problem! Good job they didn't sell them in countries like Canada else people would never be able to open the tailgate for 6 months of the year!
