i have just recently acquired a 2005 TD4. i was wondering if anyone can ascertain why is it churning out white smoke and engine sluggish when it is first started early in the morning? subsequently after the car has been warmed up and driven it is ok.
i was told the injectors need servicing.
really appreciate it if i can get some advice.

Since I'm a "Newb" also, maybe I should keep quiet, but I've been DIY on Jags, RRs, motorcycles, airplanes, since the late 60s.

What you are describing is the typical head gasket failure. When the headgasket starts to "go", you WILL have white smoke on cold start. "Smoke" is actually the vapor, from the coolant that's burning in the cylinders. Once the engine warms up, the engine block, and the heads expand, and compress the gasket a little more, and it "seals" (not completely, but the amount of coolant leaking into cylinders is smaller, and the vapor is not easily detected with the naked eye).

There are some additives sold "over the counter" that claim to be able to "repair the leaky headgasket", but I don't believe in the "snake oil". Have the "leak down" test performed by the competent garage, which will confirm the headgasket failure.

To buy some time, you can retorque the heads (on the cold engine), and use some of the "snake oil". You MIGHT get by for some time, but headgasket replacement is in order.
 
Unlikely to be HGF on the TD4 engine. The glow plugs can fail. It's more likely to be a failed injector. Not uncommon on that engine.
