Hi there, I've been lurking in the background since I bought my 02 Disco TD5 back in November. The forum has been a great help and has allowed me to identify numerous faults on the truck. Thanks to this forum today I managed to get my fuel pressure regulator changed under one of those ****e warranties and I'm now waiting for the starter motor to pack in as diesel has been drenching it for a few days / weeks.
Other issues I've still got to tackle are a leaking front sunroof (nothing major but I'm dreading taking off the roof lining to be honest). wing mirror motors (not exactly a show stopper but I still want everything working) and the rear window heater.
I've noticed the heater cables have been disconnected from the rear screen heater and I presume tied back inside the rear tailgate. The switch on the dash illuminates when pressed or when the air con demands it but obviously the previous owner has had the heater disconnected for some reason or other - any ideas before I remove the door card and reconnect - and probably start blowing fuses !! I'm also not convinced the front screen heater works but again the switch illuminates.
Any help / suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Hi there ! I also had prob's with both my manual sunroofs leaking when I bought my latest Disco' , before you go stripping out the headlining , have a look from outside at the sealing rubber under the glass , mine were a wee bit shrunk where they go round the corners , a wee bit of clear silicon sealer and new rubbers fitted and wahay water tight again

, I also smeared a light layer of silicon grease round the rubbers where the glass rests, to stop the two sticking together as I recon thats part of the problem the sticking glass pulling at the rubbers all the time !

I had a heated front screen fitted the other day, the way I can tell if its working or not is when I press the button on idle you can hear the engine drop revs slightly. dunno if its just mine but worth a go!

does the screen clear?Breathe on it if it aint steamed up/frosted over.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'll have a play around tomorrow and get a better idea where I'm at. I'll get that tailgate door card off as well and reconnect the rear heater although I'm fully expecting a fuse to blow (or some other fiendish experience) - otherwise why would they be disconnected.
The water ingress is minimal and I only ever find small / slight damp patches above each corner of the windshield.

Today I removed the tailgate door card to investigate the missing rear screen heater cables. Firstly I was very suprised to find the plastic membrane was in place and totally intact making me think the cables would be just disconnected and stuffed into the door. I actually found both the cables had been removed completely and in-line connectors on the loom ends left floating uninsulated !! - It actually looks as if they were removed by just yanking them out from tailgate holes (next to the heater connections). I turned on the heater at the switch and found 14 volts across the two cables so then ran in two new cores back up to the heater and connected them. So far no fuse has blown but I'm unsure if the heater is actually working as I'll need a little frost or moisture first.
It's still seems a mystery to me why this would have been disconnected, especially as there doesn't seem to be any real problem there - even if it doesn' work why go to the bother of removing the cables ? If you do go to the bother of removing the cables why not insulate the exposed plug / connecter ends ?
