Hi all
I'm a first time Landy owner. Fancied a 110 for a while but just sort of never got around to it.
We've bought a 1999 Td5 110 in Rioja Red and are absolutely loving it!!!!
It's somewhat different to the other cars in the household but the 110 puts a smile on our faces so all good so far.
Hoping to contribute what I can in the future but for now I'm still in "learning mode" so I have a few questions:

1 - what would people say a realistic top speed of a Td5 110 is? Ours seems to struggle beyond 75 ish so I'm thinking i might need to have a look at that? of course it's no sports car and 65 feels a better cruising speed but I would like to understand the health of the engine.
2 - the truck has never had any body repairs and there is bubbling around some of the rivets and doors. Is this something we should be tackling and if so how? I intend to have a full Dinitrol treatment done to the chassis to preserve the thing but do these bubbles need tackling or do 'they all do that' and I should leave alone?
3 - we wanted to put a roof rack on the truck so the kids can sit up there in summer and we can carry bikes etc up there but heard horror stories on here about racks not letting a 110 flex and causing roof separation issues. Is there a definitive answer on this because you see so many 110's with racks surely they cant all have knackered roofs?
4 - the heater isnt exactly 'all that' although it does blow out warm air so I'm presuming this is normal for a Defender and isnt worth investigating much further or trying to improve on?
5 - can anyone recommend a LR specialist garage in Lancashire to look after it? It's been looked after by Independant LR in Preston to date.

I have loads more questions but dont want to overface my first post by sounding too needy ;)

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum from another 1999 TD5 110 owner, I'm sure you'll find answers on here somewhere......

With regard to the top speed, mine starts labouring a bit over 80. They're not the most aerodynamic things and TBH my tyres probably mean my speedo reads a bit low, but cruises at 70 (indicated) all day long.
I've got a LR rack with marine ply (and am hardly a lightweight bloke at around 280lb ) but it seems perfectly happy with me up there, no sign of any splitting around the clamps etc.... yet.

Have fun!

Hi, regarding maintenance, there's not a lot of stuff on a td5 that's not doable by the home mechanic,
As for top speed, prior to remap mine would show around 90 on the speedo, not sure how accurate they are though,
Slowed it down by fitting bigger tyres, winch, etc.
Never heard of the roof flex thing though

Thanks guys.
from what I can gather from this forum elsewhere the roof issue comes from the racks not letting a 110 flex and then the roof can separate from the rain gutters or similar? I'm holding off buying a rack until I get to the bottom of it...

Maintenance wise I am hoping to get stuck in a little myself although I need to be realistic about my skill levels!
