I'm new to offroading and would really like to read up on technique and tips before I head out. Are there any good guides out there?

Theory ok but cant help but feel that watching and edging your way in is best. I guess you can cover the theoretical basics but beyond that...give it a go and take it easy chap

Might sound bull ... but the Discovery handbook (and I assume other LR models) has a sectin on off-road driving that will give an idea.

Mind, nowt beats just going out green-laning with a few others to show you the way, and get a more experienced driver to sit with you, then listen to what he says!

think it depends on what sort of "off roading" your doing if your doing P+P there is normally an easy way to do thing,s but if your venturing out in the wilderness you need to know a bit more. id say go for a pay play day do a novice route then build from there or come out with a few of us and get pointers... i prefer practical to theory... landy hand books normally cover basics
