Hi all I bought myself a freelander 1 2.0 td4 2006 I have an issue I have a metal on metal knock coming from the front after the knock I can hear as the car rolls something spinning and rubbing throughout the drive and knock noise keeps coming aswell I have installed new pads and disks, new wishbones, droplinks, but still have this issue any help will be appreciated
 
Hi yeh they feel little loose ill get those sorted and see if that sorts it as I had 2 things on the list one was the driveshafts then second was gonna be the wheel bearing strange thing is that I have only just put on the disks and there's a scratch mark from the caliper carrier that has scratched a quarter of the disk so maybe the wheel bearing could be an issue thanks for the answer but will change driveshaft then move forward
 
Might be a consequence of changing the discs !!

Check that they are seated flat and square with no rust or debris underneath otherwise they will be running not true to the caliper. This would explain the noise unless the wheel bearing has totally failed.
 
If it happened before doing that work, then presumably the knock is not related to those bits you've changed.

The main pulley is known to delaminate on the TD4. Think a good test is to shine a torch on it and see if there are any little 'flakes' floating around shining.

They're not as cheap as you'd think on a bugger to change I believe (I don't drive a TD4).
 
Hi yeh when I bought it it had this issue so I was fault finding so decided I would work my way round so far I have changed lower rear engine mount no change then thought I could do with changing pads and disks as I installed them cleand hub before installing disks went on flush no change then ordered and installed both front wishbones still no change then changed droplinks still no change only few things left to change driveshafts and then wheel bearings strange thing Is wen I set off or driving there's no humming noise as you would expect with wheel bearings just a loud metal to metal knock then as I drive u can hear something clapping away as you drive, drive shafts feel loose but aren't knocking if you turn either direction oh and there's a little wobble at front as you drive over 30 bit of a pain will have a look at engine bay in morning thanks for reply by the way

Failed inboard spider joints will cause the power unit to wobble and shake at lower speed.

Metallic noise sounds like the IRD, which is a failure point if odd make tyres are used, or new tyres are put on the front.
 
I'd find out why the caliper is drawing a scribed circle on the new discs first !!:confused:

Cos even Land Rovers are not designed to do that.

Something isn't right, there should be an air space between the caliper and the rotor, it definitely shouldn't touch.
 
I would show you guys what I was on about if anyone was local to me I'm in rochdale I have ordered driverside driveshaft and wheel bearings let's hope these sort it out as even weirdly as u turn either direction at very low speed wheels turn then all of a sudden a lump appears and u can feel the jeep move on that lump absolutely blown mind

This smells suspiciously like the VCU going stiff and winding up the transmission to me.

Which could also cause all sorts of wear to bearings and bushes that make strange noises and knocks.

Hi all I managed to sort that problem out with the knocking it was the drive shaft now all is good but a new problem has arisen every now and then when I go and start the landrover it starts to leak fuel on the left hand side of the engine when looking at the car from front and just behind the driverside wheel checked sump gasket is OK it trickles down from the side from what I think is the fuel pump is there any way I can sort this leak out without changing the pump if there is what will I need like I said it only leaks once in a while twice in the week please let me know what I can do cheers
 
Sounds like the HP pump is in need of a rebuild or replacement.
Unfortunately it needs to be removed no matter what you do, and you'll need the special tool to remove it, reading the instructions carefully to avoid a costly mistake.
