I was told I need new tyres by the guy who serviced it. I currently have 235/50/18 on with 25mm wheel spacers. I'm looking at General Grabber AT3 235/55/18. They are .9 of an inch bigger in diameter and I realise I may have to do away with the front mud flap but other than that are there any unforeseen problems I may encounter? Thanks

It should fit ok.

I'm looking at 18" tyres myself. I'm thinking that Pirelli Scorpion STR or Michelin Latitude Cross are better than the current Latitude Tour tyres. I'm keeping the standard 235/50/18 size to save transmission troubles later on.

That's what I was worried about, the transmission issues. Probably safer to stick with original size.

The standard Freelander transmission isn't week, but it's far from indestructible.
The standard FL1 15" wheel/tyre combo has a diameter of 27.25".
The standard 18" wheel/tyre combo also has a diameter of 27.25".
The most common wheel/tyre combo was the 16" rim that has a diameter of 27" as standard.
The smallest diameter standard wheel/tyre combo was the 17 wheel. This has a diameter of 26.75".

While I like the look of larger diameter wheel/tyre combo's. Having had a set myself for some years. I am now experiencing some gearbox problem, which I'm thinking might well be caused by the larger tyres.
So at my next change, I'll be fitting a factory size tyre.
