Just manager to fond and buy my fathers 1959 Series 2 88” that he bought in Tanzania 1969
Drove it all the way back home to Sweden, the entire family in a very small car
The car has been lost for 50 years, and finally, after 9 years of active search I found it, and bought it unseen
Will be restoring it to the state it was when we left East Africa in 1970, a bit battered but more than fully functional.

Welcome:)

Great intro, must have taken some tracking down good job:)

Got any pics? Cos we love pics:)

Enjoy it, I bet lots of happy memories remembered and future ones to come.

Here are a couple of pics, 1st is from Africa 1969, 2nd is from the dark ages when it was lost, 3rd on its way hoe [GALLERY=][/GALLERY]

My mother on the first pic, my brother on the last
Welcome very nice :)

How can you be sure it’s the same one?

Identified it by a couple of unique mods
- front end mods for jerrycans, remnants left
- front end reflectors, indicators and side lamps
- military electrical outlet and tow hook rear
- modified rear seat mounts, for extra floor
- dual fuel tanks
- large dent on left front wing, still there
Sort of 90% sure
Once it appeared in an add, I got the chassis number, verified it at the British motor heritage trust (exported to cooper motors in Kenya) and the Swedish DVLA, import registration , only one imported from Tanzania in 1970
Also got the records of all previous owners in Sweden
100% sure

You must have been pretty sure to buy it unseen. I’m happy for you :)

What’s the plans for its new role in the family?
