hi recently purchased my first defender after years of dreaming. i want to do some basic off roading nothing to extreme some green lanes maybe but they seem hard to find. north yorkshire, teesside area.

First off, some basic vehicle prep.

If you are going off road, you want to ensure the vehicle runs well and won't over heat.

Make sure you have suitable recovery points front and rear, should you need them. And no, tying a rope to the bumper isn't suitable.

Make sure you have a suitable tow rope, I recommend a kinetic energy recovery rope.

And suitable tyres for the conditions, no point heading up a very muddy slippery lane on road tyres.


Lastly, if you've never off roaded before, go with people who have. There are plenty of clubs you can join. Off road driving is great fun, but it is a discpline and requires you to learn how to do it.
