I’ve recently bought a defender 110 county 2011 reg and it needs some work doing to it. I’ve got two howling moon roof tents hopefully coming to me before the end of June :) and then I’m heading off on a 2-month tour of the Baltics. If anyone has the time some ideas/help please… First thing, I have no air con, does anyone know if it’s an easy job to incorporate air con, can it be done, it looks like it may be bloody expensive? Has anyone used one these and do they work Revotec Electronic Fan Conversion Kit 90/110 2.5P 2.5D and 2.5TD -
The windscreen motor has packed in, I’ve been doing some research and it seems it’s a long winded process to sort as the dash has to come out. Is this a job for a garage or can this be done with a bit of patience?
Also, anyone know where I can get my footsteps treated and recoated, they are rusty as hell.
Fianlly any tips on treating rust spots that are showing inside and out, nothing major just want sorting before they become problematic. Cheers in advance

Firstly enjoy the trip:)
How handy are you with spanner’s?
Make sure that the 110 is 200% mechanically sound (whole vehicle not just engine)and fix anything the least bit dubious/suspect, major service before you set off.
Work out your route and you will probably find spares are thin on the ground on route. So save a box in the back for some spares and a mixture of useful bits & bobs and fluids. You can’t carry everything, but sometimes enough to get you safe. Do you have a diagnostic tool For your toolbox?
The list can go on but making sure it’s tip top first and you won’t need anything out your spares box.

As for the AC at this time (you have a short time be be ready) I would leave it, maybe save for another day. Yes it could get hot but hey take your shirt off and wind down the windows:eek:

And don’t forget to carry what’s mandatory for countries you will visit.

And be prepared to smile when things get rough:)

Oh and wiper motor... yes doable you might find some mess behind the dash on the way, so may give you an idea of any PO “bodges” if any.

I would agree with this apart from the "save for another day". I would just not bother. I have done Morocco twice now in my '89 110 and you do not need aircon. You quickly acclimatise to the heat, and if you wear the correct clothing and drive with the window down you do not need it at all. It is just a large expense, and something else to go wrong. Spend the money it would cost to fit on rebuilding gearboxes, or axles, or something important rather than unnecessary modern "essentials". Just my opinion but as far as I am concerned it is right up there with electric seats, and parking sensors as another expensive and useless frivolity

Other than that give it a bloody good service, replace all the fluids, check and replace all dubious suspension bushes, TRE's, bearings, swivels etc.
Carry basic spares to keep you driving, wheel bearings, brake pads, suspension bushes, whatever sensors are needed for you engine, all fluids etc.
