Hi. I've been lurking for a while but recently bought my 1st Land Rover. A 1996 TDI300 Auto. I should have bought one years ago I've always thought the best car is a transit van and the Disco is like a posh van but with other benefits. SHe's done 158,000 miles but looks like the majority of these have been on tarmac and judging by the back shocks (now replaced) towing a caravan. Thanks to all on this forum I was arme with at least a bit more knowledge than I would have had when I was looking to buy. Still managed to get one with a few "issues" though, N/S inner arch welding (again now done) sems to develop a brake squeal about 8-10 miles after setting off from home. Thought this might be a font wheel bearing because it apeared to be related to steering wheel position(i.e. when going round a R/H curve) and goes when the brake pedal is pressed. Front wheel bearings seem to be new though and it strill does it after adjusting. Next to be addressed is the cold stall which some others have. Its a bit slow to start, but always does, and will tick over but if I touch the throttle and/or put it into Drive or reverse it would almost stall. This has now developed into stalling almost every time D or R is selected. I'm thinkng I am going to blank off EGR and get rid of the, old looking, Cat. These parts have just been recieved so will hopefully getting around to doing this soon. Whilst I am at it I will take off the seimenter and have a look at the sender. All the other filters have been changed but didnt help.
Cheers

I think that your right. I also think I can stand it until the end of winter. In fact most of the jobs can wait for a little while. Might just have a look at the sedimenter, EGR blank and de-cat pipe. Mind you whilst I'm at it I may as well check out the calipers, Oh my God its starting isnt it before I know it it'll be full strip down and rebuild :eek::eek:
Pics to follow. :D
