Hi Guys, my name is Mark. Have never used a forum before and probably am doing it wrong - i need help with finding a cheap transfer box for a LandRover 110 300TDi (14-10 ratio) My problem is that i cant find a cheap enough recon unit so i need to buy 2nd hand but have no idea what i will be buying if i get a 2nd had one. What am i looking for with one? and does any one have one for sale? Any information would be helpful even tips on taking the old one off and refitting a new one. Thanks for your time.

I've tried to sell good second hand transfer boxes on ebay, and they usually don't even get a bid, so you should be able to get one very cheaply.

If I were you, i'd replace your transfer box with one from a tdi rrclassic or discovery. In my opinion, the higher gearing is a great improvement to any tdi defender.

Removal and replacement is straight forward enough (assuming you are mechanically minded?), but beware you'll need a helper to drop the box down (and lift back in) and a good trolley jack (the box is very heavy and awkward to handle). Its worth getting a special propshaft bolt socket too (see Difflock.com shop) ... it makes it much easier to get the props off/on. Remember to replace the oil seal where the main gearbox shaft goes into the t.box.
