Hi
I have just bought my first land rover, a diesel freelander 1 TD4 with an automatic gearbox and I love it.
We have already had to carry out a few jobs as when I bought her the passenger side window did not work and the same door did not unlock, Both now work perfectly.
Next jobs - get the sun roof and cruise control working (any hints and tips would be great) then everything will be fabulous on it.
Have really enjoyed my first two weeks of owning 'her' and cannot believe I waited this long to get one.

Welcome to the funny farm Caroline. Good advice, bad advice, never a daft question but sometimes a few daft answers. Enjoy.

Not sure, also not sure how I can tell if it has. I am not a very good mechanic even though I sorted the window and door, they were just replacement parts. What do I need to look for?

Look underneath - should be 2 with a big donut looking device (VCU) in the middle.
Often removed to mask major drive train problems. ☹️

I have read a couple of articles about the VCU and think mine probably needs changing as the vehicle has done 137,000 miles and they seem to recommend changing it every 70,000. How difficult are they to change?
I still don't understand what the VCU has to do with the cruise control. My original question was what could cause the cruise control not to work.
