Hello guys..
been sorting through all the little niggles with my 98 dse ( datatek and wammers will confirm as ive prob drove them nuts keep asking them Q's)
Anyway,Been having probs with my remote locking and a problem with battery going down after 2-3 days. symptoms i had with keyfob from purchase- had to keep pressing keyfob to try and get in the bloody thing, the remote light flashes! not on solid if i keep my finger on the button? is that right? i also have to tap the keyfob sometimes as the light will not illuminate as if the button pads are not making contact? so maybe the keyfob needs replacing or just new buttons? new duracell batteries by the way!! the next problem/s i have with the central locking are- if i use keyfob it will lock/unlock all doors except passenger door,But if i manually lock/unlock passenger door-that will lock/unlock all doors. if i just use key to lock car-it will lock all doors except passenger, and if i open with key it will only open ther drivers door?? Tuesday Bit the bullet and purchased a new RF unit from island 4x4 to sort out battery drain as that was the easy 1 to sort, just the price lol..fitted that and still sometimes have to press keyfob a few times before it will lock/unlock..i wondered if they had sent me a returned unit at 1st as the box (gen LR) was tatty and covered in oily finger marks and box already opened! can't try my spare fob as that is broken as there are some bits of solder rattling round in battery area :(..there is no sign of battery drain yet so i'm guessing RF is doing its job,so just the locks to sort.. Do i need 2 complete locks? or just a problem with 1 door causing all this? what is the door outstation? would a dodgy lock cause the problem with my keyfob? as i say i can lock and unlock the car it just takes a few presses sometimes to get in which is driving me nuts...i just want to press once to get in and lock/unlock all doors
If 1 of you can just point me in the rite direction i would be most greatfull ;)

The LED on the key should flash if you hold your finger on the button. It flashes twice slowly then gets faster.

i also have to tap the keyfob sometimes as the light will not illuminate as if the button pads are not making contact? so maybe the keyfob needs replacing or just new buttons?

Yes. You could try new buttons but you might end up at the stealers for a new key.

new duracell batteries by the way!! the next problem/s i have with the central locking are- if i use keyfob it will lock/unlock all doors except passenger door,But if i manually lock/unlock passenger door-that will lock/unlock all doors. if i just use key to lock car-it will lock all doors except passenger, and if i open with key it will only open ther drivers door??

Sorry, my brain is starting to fizz at this point, can we leave this for the moment?

If your key, when it works, is operating the new RF unit and you're no longer getting a battery drain then I'd be nice to Island and, at least for the moment, assume that it's a good unit, maybe not brand new but. . .

Do i need 2 complete locks? or just a problem with 1 door causing all this?

Why two locks, I thought it was only the passenger door that was giving trouble?

what is the door outstation?

It's the box of electronics in the door that controls the locking and window for that door.

would a dodgy lock cause the problem with my keyfob?

No.

i say i can lock and unlock the car it just takes a few presses sometimes to get in which is driving me nuts...i just want to press once to get in and lock/unlock all doors

Start by repairing or replacing your key.

My brain hurts

I think you have bad contacs on your buttons you can get the rubbers off and clean buttons with electrical cleaner .sound like a stick lock at the moment

:D well i thought i'd be thorough :D

by the way,i wasn't "not" nice to island i'm just describing the situation incase a faulty RF would still cause this? and knowing that they have had units returned,2 from 1 member on here from what ive been reading ;) you would think if you paid £170 for a genuine new part it would come in a new sealed box that's all? just rang alarm bells when it came..

I asked if i needed 2 locks because pass side fails to lock/unlock off remote. when i use the key to unlock the car only drivers door opens? can't remember if thats correct? as it has done it from day 1 and its been 3 years since my last p38...
fook me ya brain ul be fizzin again :D:D
i'll order a repair kit for fob from eblag for now and see if that cures fob.
now have 5 lol
rite then locks! do i just buy this Front Door Latch Assy RHD LH 94-99 FQJ103230 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

dont use WD40! use a spray lubricant or graphite spray

replaced the buttons on my remote today, for the complete kit, buttons, cap and batteries you pay no more than £8

hi , you mentioned youve bought a new rf receiver at £170 are you completely sure you got the series 3 with the green round sticker on it ?? their only £ 140.00 from land rover ...check that the one you took off has the blue sticker on and then check the new one ,,as for the rest it appears to me that your fob unit needs refurbing i,e, 2 new batteries new rubber pressle pad and new rubber seal ring for access unit ??????????????? this lot comes all together off fleabay brand new for less than a tenner !!!!!! when you have done all this and still stuck give me a ring ,i,will pm you with my no ,cheers mozz

when i first got the car one of the buttons would only work intermittently and when i took off the rubber pad to replace it the small switch fell out. resoldered it back in and works ok
