Hi all
I have just acquired a 96 4.0se lpg range rover
It had been of the road for 8 months before I got it, took it for an mot and it passed, truly shocked me. Only got 3 advisories, 2 rear tyres will require changing soon and rear brake pads low. Anyways it's booked in for Friday to do it.
After driving it for a few miles I have noticed a few issues:
Driver window doesn't fully go all the way up, tried window reset but to no avail, worn regulator?

Heating is great but it doesnt blow on my feet,lol. Blend motors?

After mot on the way home it wouldn't rev properly (even on petrol) gentle accelerator it was fine but up hill it felt hesitant.,plugs and leads?

I came from a BMW 540 to the range rover and the ride seems very choppy, it's on coil springs. It's as though the springs are to soft. Driving down country lanes at about 40mph was intresting.The dampers seemed fine on bounce test and no visible leaks. Are they all like this?

Think that's it for now guys, any info or help would be appreciated.

A) Dose it give a knocking noise where it sticks? if so yes.

Heating is great but it doesnt blow on my feet,lol. Blend motors?

A) if its been stood for that long they are sticking, try pressing each button till it works fine, just needs opperating again.

After mot on the way home it wouldn't rev properly (even on petrol) gentle accelerator it was fine but up hill it felt hesitant.,plugs and leads?

A) possiably but air filter change, gearbox oil change, and as you say, plugs and leads, even petrol could be causing injectors to foul up. trust you have a new battery on now.

A) 4x4, 2 and 1/2 ton, not going to be anything like your old Beemer:)

No, I haven't fitted a new battery yet, to do
I know the ride wouldn't be same I was just enquiring if they all felt a bit choppy on country lanes,etc.

I forgot to mention earlier,
Cruise control doesnt work either. I noticed the vacuum pipe has perished near the ends. (what size is pipe so I can order some and what length?)
It seems to go into the car but where too?
I have 2 buttons on my steering wheel, resume on right and set on left. Is I correct that I press the motorway button on centre console then one of the steering wheel buttons?

Sorry for sounding thick, I got no manual with car and just pressing buttons at the mo,lol

check out your maf for the poor running, keep revs up unplug it then try driving the car, if fault goes away its your maf,9if knackered dont be tempted to buy a cheap one on ebay, get a quality one i.e.bosh etc) a good service will be good idea too,

cruise control, yeah your right turn on at switch and press set to engage. some rangies dont like certain tyres, which can make the car tramline or move around alot on country roads,

Cruise is the button at the extreme left on the dash, then set desired speed with the set button on the wheel.

They are good on air suspension!

Download RAVE, it has the owners manual plus everything else you will need to know.
 
Cruise control is usually perished pipes, but haven't bothered replacing mine as don't use it - sorry!

I have no idea about the choppy ride - who knows what springs and dampers went on to replace the air suspension? A big, heavy car should have a very compliant ride and be softer than the BMW. Was the 540 an SE or Sport?

If its been stood for a while, try adding Redex to your next tank of fuel - has helped mine, which stood for 4 years!
 
You have answered most of your questions quite nicely. The dodgy handling could be a few things, steering box off centre, radius arm bushes, steering damper etc.
