Hi all, against the advice of many i've just acquired a 2005 TD4 Freelander Auto.
I was in 2 minds whether to buy it or not but i had the opportunity to get it at a keen price for £5250 from a one lady owner who's had it looked after by her local Land Rover garage with all the paperwork and was selling it get a newer one. She had it up for £6,000 and i got her down because it looks like it needs a new O/S door mirror ( a bit droopy but still folds) and also the 'Sport Mode' isn't working. I may have caught a bit of a cold on that second problem i see from elsewhere on the forum, i thought it would be a easily replaced switch but according to a couple of posts you have to replace the whole automatic stick assembly........ bah!! Not such a cheap buy after all then.
I've had loads of 4x4's but always rough and ready with diff locking etc so this is a bit more civilized and after a good trip up the motorway, across the North Yorkshire Moors and down the NE coast to give it a good drive under varied road conditions i'm really amazed at how it handles and drives. I'm really pleasantly surprised, impeccable on the motorway, quiet considering it's an oil burner and the suspension seems perfectly matched to the car, not to hard, absorbs pot holes and the like and yet doesn't wallow in fast bends, corners on rails. I'm hoping i've got a goodun and looking forward to a few years of ownership, you never know, when it comes to changing it i may do the same as the previous owner and just opt for the Freelander 2
I'm not much of a contributer on owner forums i'm afraid, more of a lurk and learn but i'm sure i'm not alone and i'm hoping there are plenty of knowledgeable heads to help me keep it healthy.
Thanks for having me
