Afternoon all,
My first post here on this forum so be gentle please...if possible with a Landy... :p

Had my Disco for a year now and i must say after some initial worries ive grown very attached to her now! Living in a rural area shes given me a more peace of mind to getting to / from work (mainly from!). After some heavy flooding and the winter's were having shes coped brilliantly!

I have a few 'problems' right now though which I wonder if anyone can help with...

1) Both the passenger and driver heated seats have stopped working...im getting a cold bum on the leather seats! :( Im pretty sure ive checked the fuses and there ok...ive read that wiring can come loose but i suspect it could be the elements...how hard are these to check / replace for a novice..?

2) Half the dash lights have gone out on the centre console. The ones illuminating the driver side heaters, the fans / air con etc and the clock all are out... again, i don't think its the fuse...how do i get the fascia off to check the bulbs..?

3) Sunroof (groans all around i bet!) It wasn't working when i got it but after striping out the motor, disassembling it and clearing out all the water ingress it now works! Someone either hadn't fitted the seal properly or it had been removed once before...so far no more ingress...HOWEVER im getting water leaking into the cab just under the rear mirror. I presume this is from blocked run - off tubes..? I cant figure out how to get to them and if a bit of wire shoved down would clear them out..?..i was suggested to use drain cleaner...

I'm sure there was something else too but i cant quite remember now...apart from the front can holder not popping out properly...but hey...its a Landy lol :p

Thanks for your time / help folks, looks like a good community set-up here!

Regards,
Steve

Welcome.

Had to check your profile and confirm its a TD5 you have. Its a good idea to let folks know what your driving.;)

The consul lights are fairly easy. Remove the cup holder. 2/3 screws only from memory. Clean and lubricate it with silicon spray when its out, and thats one of your problems sorted. When this is out, access the spring clips on either side of your climate control consul and release it. Open it up, unscrew circuit board to gain access to the bulbs. Be careful with the circuit board when lifting it out. Bulbs are available on E Bay or from dealer. Can't remember part No tho.

As for sunroof, Loads of opinions, but mine is they leak between the vehicle roof and sunroof. Search on here and make your own mind up.

Hi,

I'm in agreement with Meego, my Discovery 2 was DEFINITELY a leak between sunroof and body (probably caused when I polished the roof). The 3mm bead of sealant that landrover put in there 10 years ago has probably perished.

Hi Guys, thanks for the quick replies!
Sorry, i should of stated that Meego! lol good bit of sleuthing to find out though.. :p
I shall have a go at dismantle the unit later on, sounds quite straight forward.

As to the sunroof i think your all right there, thats where it appears to be. Erazmus is it easy or worth re-sealing it..? Tarantula is that externally..?

Cheers

No probs mate.

Taking the sunroof out and resealing is not particularly hard. Just time consuming. Headliner has to come out, and all the side trims and fixtures. If you are taking it out, you may as well do the roof bars as well. Just in case they are leaking as well.. If your Disco has rear air con, you will have to remove some of the plastic air conducting pipe to do the job (pop rivets). Take your time and dont damage anything by forcing any fixings etc. Thought I had photos somewhere of when I done mine, but I can't find them. Will post them if I do.

Yeah externally mate fixed both, which were leaking enough to leave puddles.

Took me 5 mins, just climbed up and sat on there and did it. Never used it before either so it really is a simple job.

Cheers guys!! Sound advice!! Sounds like a job for a sunny day though...but better not wait too long...been taking shower gel in the mornings to have a wash on the way to the depot ahaha

If you find those photos great...if not no worries mate. And i'll take a look at them products too.
