Hi all
I'm new on here and new to land rover ownership just a few days ago so please forgive me if I'm not allowed to post on here.
I have a problem and I'm pulling my hair out.
The whole radio and nav system closes down and comes back on whenever it feels like it about every 30 - 60 seconds.
I get a relay click from fuse box area when switches on and off and randomly will either come on with door unlock or ignition and sometimes won't.
Iv checked all fuses and connections on back of the head unit and the screen and nothing to see.
I'm really hoping to find some help on here as I'm at a total loss and rapidly falling out with a car that I really wanted
The radio when it's on works as it should as well as the touchscreen and all volume ect the display also comes up and says phone disconnected everytime it powers back on but not sure if that's normal or not as its never stayed on long enough to attempt to connect a phone.
Thank you in advance and I'm hoping for any help at all

Iv also noticed the parking sensors when put in reverse just make a long beep and says front system inactive.
I had a listen to all sensors and found 1 that didn't work so I replaced it and still the same.

Welcome...this section is for introductions of you and your vehicle...please swipe down till you get to relevant section ie rr,disco etc and ask for help there including model type and age...

Few things ...

Welcome to the forum :)

This is the intro forum to show off pics of your rusty tat and introduce yourself to members :) you will get help by posting technical issues in the relevant ‘LR model’ section ;)

When making technical question post it will help to state model/year/engine/auto or manual

Your issue is likely to he easily solved by the gurus,
Good luck

Thank you and sorry to post in wrong place I'm new to all this forum thing and have no idea what I'm doing.

You haven’t posted the in wrong place ;) - intro is place to start but gurus that tend to be able to help you have less chance of resolving an issue for you here.

You can have as many threads as you want but it helps to keep technical stuff in one place as it can get confusing with similar things for 130,016 people :)

@gstuart (in your disco thread) is the guy for this. Keep him updated on your endeavour and work through his advise in your time - he will get you through it.

Also ask @Doo - he is very good with non standard electrickery and a very helpful chap

Hi @Rol840

Sorry to hear it’s just the same , I’ll keep an eye out on ur other post in the disco section

Just quickly have u tried putting a jump lead between the earth post of ur battery to the engine bracket that sits near the front of the engine plse

Easy to test with a multimeter set to ohms going from engine mount to neg battery post to ensure it’s a sound earth

Don’t worry know ur tearing ur hair out but plenty to always help

It sounds as if there isn't quite enough power going to the system. Like when the battery starts going flat when you've been working at the car all day with the engine off & the radio on...(been there several times) and the radio starts cutting out. Then it gets to the point where it comes on then goes off without any sound other than a click from the speakers. The relay clicking may well be the amp shutting down remotely.

I'd check the fuse box multi plug connections for any green grotty bits on the pins. Happened to my RR when I put the window down and it stayed down, but the out station was clicking. Turned out to be just 1 dirty pin connection...

Are there any other issues with it?

Iv had the fuse box out and cleaned and checked everything and always still the same it's like hitting my head on a brick wall lol.
Checked the earth leads and all sound.
Checked battery checked alternator and all voltages are correct.
Nothing seems to make sense with it at all. Iv just about decided it must be the actual head unit itself but without spending 200 to 300 on a replacement I have no way of testing it and don't have the money to do it.

Hiya

Indeed know these can cause u to pull ur hair out

Put a thread on here https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/, would rather point u into a direction where someone may have come across that before and save u having to spend out when it may not 100% be that

Shame ur a distance away otherwise I would have given u a hand to try and pin it down

Plse let us know how u get on

My radio was (is) bit of a mess. Someone has been in there trimming wires with a brick. have you checked wiring/connections/mutiplug adapters behind the radio are not mutilated?may also be a fuse for on back of some radios

Hi
Thanks I had exhausted all my options and checked absolutely everything possible it made no sense at all.
I think the main thing that confused me was when it switched itself off the was no loss of power or earth at the back of the unit.
Anyway I eventually found a used head unit the same as mine for a bat gain £75 Inc Post and though I would give it a try.
Hey presto all works fine now so was the unit itself at fault all along.
Thanks to everyone for their advise and tips.
Just got parking sensors and the constant surging to get sorted now

Voltage regulator perhaps? Depends what surging you mean.

we all know how stressful it can be trying to pin problem down
Glad you are sorted :)
