Hi Folks

Just new to the site and it looks a great forum!

I have a 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 for a few days on trail and i have fell for it already - can you give me any advice as to what faults i should be looking for?
Everything works as it should as far as i can tell but theres a slight smell of coolant under the bonnet but levels are ok, also a slight vibration which i'm putting down to either tyres or balance.

The mileage is 85000 and the jeep seems genuine.

Any advice is appreciated.

Never seen Range Rover default to jeep (spit). Although freelander always defaults to trabant.
Use the search button for loads of ideas on 'vibration', also loads to read through ref 'what to look for'. Not being rude(for a change) but there are threads and threads and threads, started by people asking those very questions and now, instead of doing the research reading those, then asking questions on any thread which seem to relate, there is yet another thread, asking questions already answered in depth.

P.S If you buy it you will love it but don't think because they are now relatively cheap to buy that they will be cheap to keep :eek::)

Hopefully i can log on tomorrow, site looks good plenty of info.
Didn't think i'd like the Range Rover as much as i did! We do quite a bit of towing with a Hilux and wanted a bit more power. The Range Rover is effortless to drive its just a bit scry on the cost of maintenance
 
two things for range rover ownership.

1. learn to spanner yourself, if you don't it will eat your face
2. get a proper diagnostic tool. not a generic but one specific to the RR

What tools you have will amass over time, start with a set of ring spanners, decent socket set, quality screw drivers and a torque wrench.. oh and a box nitrile gloves and plasters.

Had a good look through the site and theres nothing really stands out around the 85k mark. My own mechanic said last night to change gearbox oil straight away if i buy it and not to panic about compressor and suspension as theres plenty of good aftermarket ones well priced if i needed them in future.

I think the slight vibration is coming from a front tyre that doesn't match up to the rest, theres Toyo open country on 3 corners and a cheapy on the OSF.

Is there anything else that should be done for prevention around those miles so i can factor in on price?

Oh you think so do you? Wait till the big guns wake up.:eek: good advice from your mechanic, have the missus/girlfriend on standby to walk the streets.:D
 
Simply change oils with quality products if history unknown, even then I'd do them all as although it may say xyz was done it's likely they weren't.

Eg. Comma do a cheapo engine oil for c. £12 a gallon, but they also do one @ £35 with added wear reducers etc in it.

Filters, must be German....MANN, HENGST, BOSCH, never ever ever buy a CROSSLAND.

It is slightly worrying upon analysis thinking what will need doing but the reality is usually an isolated part at any one time, NOT everything at once so apart from doing the oils (engine, Gbox, Tbox and diffs) all you can do is ascertain the condition of things like brakes and suspension and make a hit list in order of importance.

W pumps, T chain etc will be fine until they're not, simples. Oh and +1 on a dedicated reader.

Good luck and Happy ownership. (ps, 4.4tdv8 is a superior beast to the 3.6, particularly in oomph but especially on mpg.)

Good to see you back, and welcome to the sometimes mad house, lots of info for you to injest on here so stick with it pal, you wont be disapointed. May be a bit oilyer

obviously maintained regardless of cost then,first sign of budget maintenance starts with oddball tyres imo

Yes i'd agree about tyres, the Toyo's are around 75% and the odd ball is new. I'd say the oddball isn't on long.
