Hi all,
Just bought myself a 1995 Discovery 3.9 V8 (petrol) ES AUTO, covered 170,000 miles, converted to run on LPG a while back (about 2005) has the single point closed-loop injection system I believe (Leonardo) with twin underslung tanks. Systems seems to work fine.
I have just renewed the coolant, engine oil (incl oil filter) and air filter. Seems to run well, engine is a little noisey (tappet sort of sound) but from what I've read I'm going to put that down to worn cams etc based on the mileage and partial service history. One thing I should mention when I changed the coolant it was a rustic sort of colour and my heaters didn't work great, got the hose pipe in to flush the system out and heaters work great now.
Generally the truck is solid, looks to have had a respray at some point and a repair to the boot floor but job seems to be a good quality one. Rear arches are solid. Only thing I may need to do at some point is a bit of plate welding on the front drivers arch, its a little soft in places, maybe I could buy the whole arch pre-fabricated to just weld in place of the old one?
Last few things I need to get done are minor jobs... drivers window appears to have came off the runner so doesn't go up and down off the switch. Passenger door is difficult to open, I'm going to put that down to a stretched cable or something? Oh and the roof lining is a bit saggy (i've read that this is a common issue on the Discovery 1?) so unsure as to what to do, as a new lining looks like it could be costly.
All in all, seems a pretty solid truck. Few jobs to do but to be expected for the age and miles.
I paid £900 (T&T to end July 13). Seems to be the going rate from what I've seen.
Any advice/tips are much appreciated.
