Hey I'm Adam and yesterday I drove this series 3 200 miles home,



What an adventure! They really aren't suited to motorways are they! Luckily for me I've owned a good few classics so was able to adapt to the lack of brakes and wandering steering with ease


When I filled up with petrol yesterday it began to **** out of the top. The guy I bought it off said he'd put £15 in that morning and I topped it up with £39 before it begun leaking so from what I've read that's pretty much brimmed? The tank its self doesn't look to fresh but I'm wondering do these have a habit of leaking from the sender seal? Or am I looking at a replacement tank?

Is there only one sort of fuel tank? I've seen some EX MOD under seat tanks, is that a different type of fuel tank, mounted higher up for better ground clearance? Will that just bolt in to my Series 3?


Also a small diameter plastic pipe came adrift from underneath, seems to go to the rear axle, is it a breather? Where should the other end be?

the milletry tank fills from under the seat so wouldnt be anygood for youe s3 as the seat base is slightlly diffrent, not sure it is any higher
should be able to mod it though
the pipe sounds like the breather pipe yes, if it was a brake pipe you would know by now lol

ive had an old one leak from the seam above halffull a new one leaking from a loose diesel return pipe flange

best remove seat when you fill up and have a look

ive got a 2nd tank under passenger seat fits ok no probs, fixed to outrigger and a bit of 2" angle welded to chassis for front sist at same height as normal one
