Hi has any body had problems when fitting the new type of head gasgetto a 200tdi i.e oil seeping from the front drivers side of head. thanks:confused:

When I did mine it was fine, I did however get the head skimed.

Either you head is slightly warped or you have not done the bolts up consistently tight?

Hi James, can you remember if the oil way in the head at the front of your head is round or oval. My head has been skimmed now on its third gasget in 5 days one fitted by me one by independent garage one by landrover am fitting old type tomorrow who said landrovers are fun;)

how sure are you that it's the head gasket that's leaking ??
have you put the gasket the right way round , what i mean is are the gasket thickness holes towards the rear of the engine and on the pump side ?
and also there are two locating lugs on top of the block surface that must be fully inserted in the holes .
there is also a black plastic engine breather that bolts to your rocker cover and these can leak oil , they have a rubber o ring on the bit that slides in the rocker cover and are pennys to replace .
also , did you make sure that the head bolt holes were clean and free from crap ? such as old gasket bits , as this could stop the bolts tightening fully.

Sory I don't rember it in that detail, I hope you have not paid for the work done by the garages if they cant do it, especialy as they are both specilists!!

Hi James just to let you know it was the head gaskets.I have just fitted a pattern part no problem and no leaks. landrover are looking into it as they say the same gasget should fit 200 and 300engines but for some reason not mine ,thanks for your help and i will let you know what landrover say when they come back to me .I did not pay for the work as all my mates are landrover trained and i am trained fitter but do not do it for a living any more.
once again thanks for your time
