Hello anyone who reads this.
I bought a 1972 series 3 (no crank no start chassis rot)
LHD
Gas
4 speed manual
w/pto
She’s Ben sitting (i was told 2 years but could have been 15) I have uncovered problematic issues as to be expected.this is the process i have documented listed below.
*I will attach LOTS OF PICTURES! and continue updating photos.
CHASSIS RESTORATION AS OF TODAY I HAVE COMPLETED THE FOLLOWING:
-wet sand blasted inside and out of Chassis, rims and most metal.
-sprayed degrease in areas needed, high pressure rotary tip cleaning on most surfaces.
-black rust converter on all surface rust and inside Chassie frame.(not the outside of chassis, chassis saver bonds better to slight rust,so the chemical engineer I spoke with over the phone says.)
-masked off and sprayed enamel on most metal other than chassis, axles and springs.
-refinished rims sprayed satin enamel.
-sprayed heavy coat of chassis saver with 8% reducer.
-i marked rotted chassis with white marker noted possible repairs
-I would like some recommendations/advice on the box frame repairs?
-the vehicle will be inside on level ground.
-I know I should have made a jig for chassis before removing rear cross member.
I have some very skilled friends I will be reaching out to for help, mainly the chassis repairs and tranny rebuild.in their personal garages well equipped for the repairs needed.
All work so far has been done by myself and I continue to the complete restoration alone and in very exposed outside location.
She has rot in some of the standard chassis rot spots As pictured
Most of the areas surrounding rot are not that damaged, good metal around the rot to weld/repair in the correct manner.open to advice.
ENGINE NO START NO CRANK:
dry tranny
All gear levels stuck/sticking
Won’t start
Won’t crank
Some bad fuses
Interior and Dash was gone to ****
Some lights work others don’t
AS OF TODAY:
-days of oiling down hardware
-new bat and clean grounds
-oil in block
-all gear levels move freely. Yes!
-cleaned up fuse panel and general look over
-i got her to crank yes!
-does not fire No!
-Tested low power to coil,it was good both sides
-tested plug to engine block while engaging ignition and *it sparked on the solenoids negative terminal Mounted on engine wall,Why? I’ll figure that out today.
-HT to coil had no reading
-replaced coil
-replaced the wires-new plugs
-does not fire (tested Ignition switch wires)
-No spark from HT lead FROM COIL.
I CONTINUE MY TROUBLESHOOTIG. GOING TO INSTALL NEW COIL THAT JUST ARRIVED IN THE MAIL TODAY. I will update pics as things unfold.
