Hi, just bought a dreaded 1.8 k-series gaylander:

Just wanted to ask a couple of questions as i've tried the search and i've got a few mixed messages.

1. K - Seal, is this stuff ok just to leave in? i'm not confident of just leaving it in but others say different advice please.

2. 52mm Throttle Bodies - does this work? If so where is the best place to buy them - tried looking on the net and the prices seem to range pretty wildly.
 
Ok - I didn't for the life of me think a K-series is a bad car by any stretch of the imagination, i really can't see why they have such a bad rap - infact i'm starting to believe all the bad stuff written about them is to keep them nice and cheap

I used to drive a lot of cars on hire for my last job - and i must of got on with about 2 of them. Completely different with the freelander got on with it straight away considering i was changing from a kia pictanto, but no problems really like the car not slow, bought it as i needed a car for towing - tows the caravan fine need to keep revs up but thats not too serious
 
Hi. The 1.8 does have a reputation that is worse than the actual engine is. It's a good engine that was sadly built rather badly and then fitted into the wrong car (Freelander) . As long as the HG has been done to a high standard along with all the other parts then it should be pretty trouble free. The VCU needs to be checked as this can cause IRD failure which is big money to sort ;)

never put K Seal or anything like it in a engine, you are just temporary fixing it, if it does and it does not, it just gungs up everything if the head gasket fails, have it done properly then you will not have to spend hours unblocking the radiator.
 
:doh:k-seal won't block anything apart from the leak but fix it properly anyway.

Stop calling it the g word anorl

I'm surprised you got any answers at all tbh
 
You can trust K seal to divide opinions. Some swear by it and some swear at it!! I do the latter ;)

It can be a little confusing especially if you have read some of the posts in other areas on this forum, but only the non-Freelander owners on this site use the disrespectful G word.

Given lots of TLC you will find the FL1 to be one of the best vehicles you have ever owned. But IT WILL need regular maintenance.

The key to getting on with the members here is, if you don't find what you have searched for then search again as someone on here will have asked your question and had an answer before.
