Hi there

I have put a new fuel pump on my 2003 freelander (the one under the rear wheelarch) car runs great again and revs to the redline......the pump is very noisey but when i open the bleed plug by the pump it quietens the pump down but when i tighten it up agsin the pump goes noisey which suggests to me there is air in the system somewhere but i dont know how to sort.....if the pump is full of fuel it should be quiet is that right? is the pump supposed to run all the time?

Cheers

Genuine or pump or cheaper after market one?........the cheap ones are known to be noisey and unreliable.

As rimmer say's . . . . .and no they will run like this [Ming test] with ignition on [dont start engine] pump should run for tween 10- 30 seconds and stop , if it keeps running then its A = FUEL LEAK B= HIGH FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR FOOKED C= FUEL PUMP RELAY JAMMED [OR ELECTRICAL FAULT .NOT FORGETING . . . . .hope this helps :)

If its the pierburg one then it should be quiet.
Make sure all the connectors are tight onto the pump and filter......the push fit connectors make a click when connected correctly........else you may have a duff pump.

Ok

But why does the pump go quiet when i open the bleed screw on the pot next to the pump then go loud again when i tighten it up?

to me there is an airlock that needs shifting some how

done a sixty mile round trip today down the motorway and back and it drives better than it has done in ages.....

mmmmmmmmmm puzzling

Oh sorry

what i should have said was that it takes about 60 seconds to stop once the ignition is on but not the engine

cheers
