A happy Discovery 4 TDV6 owner since 2012. Too tight to pay for the aussie LR site so have ditched it, plus, hey, you guys invented the thing so what would we know anyway!
Purchased new, now has about 150000km on the clock, a few spots of oil on the driveway recently so i'm here to sift out some info...

The types that invented them are also the sort to charge you for being in the club ; hence LR pricing.

The Oz site started charging to fund running costs of servers etc. Not something they wanted to do. A necessity to keep their forum going. Tis not free to do. Many forums have disappeared over the years. LRO ditched theirs and the members tried to set it up again themselves.
 
There was a donation method on ere some years ago but they moved to adverts to fund it intstead.
 
I've only known this forum, as it is now. I know @Hippo was not fussed on the revamp ;) In heindsight, I would pay a subscription now and TBH I quite like the ads and the way they change to things I've been looking up. Yet I myself only signed up due to the fact it was free and the idea of free knowledge and belonging for all.
Plus the sarcy humour and good reading lol. :p

It's easy to forget this place is a forum, like the old chat rooms, and not an official LR franchise or service. It's understandable, in that, why people sign up demanding help and authority, when we are all just people helping people. Like a club, that would normally charge, but not us :)
