Hello All,

I have always fancied the Freelander so when I found there was a T 1999 1.8XEi going for sale I jumped at it. I have had this vehicle since 3rd August and I love it so far.
I am a liitle concerned about all the posts on the web about head gasket and engine failures though. Can anyone give me any reassurance or tell me any precautions I can take to avoid these problems please?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

harsh maybe

truthfull - yes.
yu want reassurance - ok - freelanders - brilliant cars - reliable, well built, run fur ever, 150mpg. no depreciation - fantastic - everyone shud have one.

why did i sell mine and get a slitty - £6500 in a year in repair bills - and I aint the only one. Sure theres a few gooduns, mainly TD4's.
and as for what you can do to eleviate the possible problems - nothing - except hope - its **** poor design, poorly put together with Landrover relying on their good name from previous vehicles. Unfortunately we now know better.
prospective VCU failures.
prospective cracking chassis/ rear subframe mounts.
poor cooling design leading to HGF.

you want me to go on?

Thanks for your support paulb. I did think he was a little harsh as I am completely new to this.
