Hi all,

Just pick up a new Disco a week ago after our last one was written off in a crash :'(.

Went to see the new one took it a drive and everything was/sounded fine over our excited new car chatter.

On the way home i noticed it had a slight lean and its sitting slightly down on the drivers side (approx 10mm) on getting it home i then noticed it has a new spring drivers side and and the old one on the passenger side (going to replace both soon) .....

but there is a droning sound that seams to be coming from the the front feels/sounds like its coming from the passenger side headlight area, while driving its constant in a straight line or turning right ...... turning left it stops and sitting idle its very intermittent and regular say every 90secs. It also starts again after 15mph.

at first i thought it was the comp for the SLS running and checked for an air leak on the bags there fine.

Any help/suggestions be great

thanks in advance Scotty :)

I fear no ideas that will help much.

Based on description it has to be some sort of vibration related noise that isn't related to wheel bearings etc. it has to be something that can vibrate without the car moving so my first guesses would have me looking at

a) Turbo outlet - the metal pipe that runs down by the chassis
b) Exhaust down pipe

Could also be engine mount related as in when you turn left the weight is lifted off whatever is being rubbed by whatever else ... sorry to seem a tad vague. I can't see what else would make such a noise moving and stationary in the passenger side front, at least a noise that is audible in the cabin that is.

Can't help with the droning sound . But the spring sounds like they have put the wrong one in to match the old one . If you look at them both closely you will see there is a colour mark on them . There are more than one size springs for the front ,and they should be replaced in pairs :)

It does have ACE fitted and the other week the warning light came on red, drove it home, next check the res and it was empty :/ looks like the hose under the pump its self has gave up as since the ACE is no longer working the noises have stopped, which kinda leads me to my next question........

Do you think that the long/short springs on the front has caused the ACE system to over work trying to compensate for this???

I'm getting a pair of springs within the week for it, it mystifies me why people don't replace these things in pairs :/

Thanks for the replys

just to mention, the front of the cars height is all controlled by the rear airbags(unless you got springs) i have just replaced my leveling sensors as one snapped. i got a new pair and the car wasnt sitting level. about two inches different! the front was the same. if the airbags arnt level on the back then it will upset the front. it might be worth checking the back end first before buying new front ones. im sure its not helping you having one new and one old.

another thing which is common on the ace pump is for the bottom union nut to work loose. mine did, sprayed oil all over the nearside of the engine. i caught it when it happened red light came on. i just tightened the nut underneath the pump and refilled. went for a harsh drive to bleed the system.has been fine since. (touch wood)
it may be the same for you. i first thought the pipe had split.

Jay epic thaks for the reply and advice ..... It needs to go in to the garage tomorrow its not been used that much since it went about a week ago, but tonight, on my way home I noticed a burning smell, poped the bonnet and the smoke seemed to be coming from below the air box and there was a 'boiling' fluid sound coming from the top of the engine all the pulley centers seem to be turning appart from the very top one...... Is that the ace pump????

Excuse my n00bish-ness this is my first discovery (2nd D2 the other one was written off in an accident couple of weeks ago) in 11 years, had a 300 TDi before :)
