Hi All
Not sure what I'm letting myself in for but looking for a few opinions on something before i commence.

I am the proud owner of a 1997 300tdi 110 CSW. Was planning to do a body off repaint/colour change and replace a few odd panels etc. The chassis has had a few welds done on it on the rear end and is looking a little shabby. I wasnt planning to do a full strip down but have managed to acquire a new MoD ROW 300tdi Galv chassis so seems like a nice time to do it. As part of the deal i have also acquired at a great price a pair of reconditioned Salisbury axles still in their MoD boxes and greaseproof packing. The rear axle is the drum type unfortunately but as i have a 1997 110 i already have a disc braked rear salisbury fitted.

Just a few questions from those that may/probably know a hell of a lot more than I,
The chassis is a td5 rear end with 300tdi engine mounts etc. I know i have to change the fuel tank to a plastic one with apparently a 300tdi disco fuel sender and possibly fuel gauge. I know i also need the rear body tub to rear cross member bar.
Are there any other pitfalls i am likely to come across before i start in earnest ref parts.

As far as the chassis is concerned i'd like to paint it prior to building it up. I have read a lot of posts and spoke to a lot of suppliers. At present i am erring on the side of corroless primer and gloss paint to give it maximum protection although i have tried buzzweld chassis in one on a section of my existing and been suitably impressed. I am planning to paint the inside of the chassis with corroless cavity wax to get max longevity. Any suggestions or pointers ref suppliers etc?

As far as the axles are concerned obviously there doesn't seem to be any reason to fit the rear one but is there a big gain by fitting the front and also is there anything else id need. i know it'll need a different front prop shaft. At present i have the standard supplied axle and diff etc. Im not planning on thrashing the truck but certainly intend on green laning and salisbury plain trips. At some point also a trip to morocco etc is also likely to happen.

Any input as to whether the axle change is necessary and also info ref parts required regarding the fuel tank etc would be gratefully received

front 600 quid rear 100 unless things have changed, rear is easy enough to swap to swap disc hubs and shafts etc from disc to the drum,

the are heavy duty so nice ,but your std axle is more than enough
That was my thinking. I'm not planning on beating the arse out of it. I wouldn't have bought them especially but they came as part of the deal so if I've got it why not fit it? Plus the missus likes the crate it came in. Said something about looking nice in the garden blah blah blah lol

why not indeed, you just need another prop for it :)

I'll have to brave the spiders and beasties to delve into the box tmw. Any idea where that info would be on them?

Your 300 fuel gauge will be fine, just need to extend the wiring. I've put a plastic puma tank in my 200tdi (disco fuel pickup and sender).
Rear cross member tub bar is great as it gives you adjustment from the chassis to tub. Good luck with the project as you will unfortunately have lots of surprises

Can't wait to get started. Just building up a nice pile of stuff ready to start. Trying to work out what I'll need and when. Know there's a few body parts needed. C posts have a few holes in them. Have a galv bulkhead sitting in the garage ready to build up and paint. Just want to try and avoid any obvious pitfalls and mistakes before I make them
