Am looking for advice on biting the bullet and getting my beloved Disco a new bottom.

She is 2004 Disco 2 Tdi and has done 180k miles and really at the point where in the next year i'll need to take the step and get a full new chassis. I have had her welded twice so she is safe at the minute but even my wonder welder has given me the talk about her being on borrowed time.

As I am new to this renovation journey, and new to this forum, please any advice on what to look for, better to wait and see if any new aftermarket products come out, or if there is a consensus on the best supplier, type etc would be very welcome and very helpful.

Many thanks in advance.

Is it just the rear legs gone or is it up front as well? A rechassis on a 180k vehicle is very far from being cost effective. A rear half or 1/3 chassis is much more palatable cost wise.
D2 bodies also go and you may want to check scuttle, wings, sills and roof before you go any further. If the body is going as well, i would seriously question anything other than keep welding until it fails. On a 180k D2 anyway. Sad that it is, there are many out there with sound chassis for £3k and under, with lower mileage. That would be my direction of thought.

Thanks. The wonder welder has told me it's the last time he can patch her chassis up. It's not an economic decision to get a new chassis but more to keep her going. After reading through threads on here I now know not to look at a second hand chassis, which was a really useful bit of information.

The bodywork is being worked on now, and is being systematically replaced. Sills, spot on! Few bits like the back step and rear mudguards are still attached more with mud than anything else so they are being replaced now. Chassis next year. I want to go the full chassis route for lots of reasons, but the main one is that from the little I know it is the mos straightforward to replace the whole thing.

Thank you and your thoughts were very welcome. Keep smiling and stay safe

I looked in to doing my one but I think it's over £2000 for a chassis so that and the thought of doing it put me off.

If you are going for it, a new galv chassis is the way forward. Budget for any ACE components as they will break when removed (if you have ACE). I would do all bushes, shocks and springs also. Brake lines in copper if required. Its pretty pricey but if thats not an issue, why not.

Which bits?

Is this the original pipes and them fracturing when removed?

Can I suggest you speak to Strathearn Land Rover st Auchterarder.
Well known Landrover repairers, even only for guidance.
Good reputation.

Shame you’re not in N Wales. Guy I know well in Mold has done a few D2 chassis replacements now.
